Colorlotl is a color-by-number app for children, starring Gilly the axolotl. Tap a color, tap the shapes with that number, and the picture fills in. Older children can switch to times tables, where each shape shows a problem and the colors are the answers.

How do I get to the grown-up screen?

Tap the gear at the top right of the picture list. It shows a number written out in words, like "four hundred fifty-one", and you type the digits. Inside you will find how many pictures have been finished, which axolotls have been found, how each times table is going, the sound and vibration switches, and a way to start everything over.

How do the axolotl friends work?

Finishing pictures brings new friends into the tank: one friend after the first finished picture, then at three, six, ten, fifteen, and a secret one at twenty. Each friend has a card with real facts about that kind of axolotl. Tap the Friends button at the top of the picture list to visit them.

What are times tables mode and the table picker?

Switch to Times tables on the picture list and every shape shows a multiplication problem instead of a number, with the answers on the color buttons. The row underneath chooses which table to practice, from the two times table through the ten, or Mix for all of them. Problems that get missed come back more often, and the stars at the end of a picture are based on first tries.

My child is stuck

The Hint button slides the picture over to a shape that needs the color they picked and makes it glow. In the number mode, a shape also starts glowing on its own if nothing has happened for a while. Pinching zooms in, which helps with small shapes, and Fit puts the whole picture back on screen.

How do I start a picture over?

The button with the circular arrow at the top of a picture clears it and asks first. To clear every picture, plus the friends and the times tables progress, use "Start everything over" on the grown-up screen.

Where do saved pictures go?

On the screen that appears when a picture is finished, "Save to Photos" asks the grown-up number and then puts the finished picture in the device's photo library, ready to print or send.

Does it need the internet? Are there ads?

It works with no internet at all. There are no ads, no subscriptions, no accounts, and nothing a child does in the app leaves the device. See the privacy policy.

Sound is off

Colorlotl follows the phone's silent switch, so if the phone is on silent the app is too. Sound and vibration also have their own switches on the grown-up screen.
